Codex
Use InternetData in Codex: the CLI, the IDE extension and the ChatGPT desktop app.
Codex can look into any of our IP databases and tell you which ones your organization holds. It connects to our hosted MCP server, https://mcp.internetdata.io/mcp, you sign in with your InternetData account, and every tool is read-only.
Install the plugin
The InternetData plugin adds the server with skills for reading a database's contents, checking its files and downloads, and analyzing a copy:
codex plugin marketplace add internetdata/openai-plugin
codex plugin add internetdata@internetdata
codex mcp login internetdataThe last line opens your browser: sign in, pick which of your organization's API keys Codex uses, and approve. The Codex CLI, its IDE extension and Codex in the ChatGPT desktop app read the same configuration, so one install covers all three. Once it's connected, ask something like "Which IP databases are we licensed for, and how big is the latest VPN build?".
To add the server alone, without the skills:
codex mcp add internetdata --url https://mcp.internetdata.io/mcp
codex mcp login internetdataWhat the plugin adds
| Skill | What it does |
|---|---|
database-files | Answers which databases you hold, how big they are, whether your copy is intact and why a download failed. |
analyze-database | Explains a database's columns and sample rows, and in Codex analyzes a downloaded copy. |
Your API key
Codex never sees the key; our server uses it on your behalf. The key needs the db.download scope, which your organization's Default key has. Databases are licensed by contract, except the Open ones, which any organization's key downloads under CC BY-SA 4.0. For the rest, see the API documentation or request an evaluation. Approving needs permission to share your organization's API keys, and asks you to confirm it's you. To disconnect, run codex mcp logout internetdata, or remove it in the console under Settings > Sessions & devices > Connected applications; access ends within about a minute.
To send a key yourself instead of signing in, keep it in an environment variable and add the server with --bearer-token-env-var INTERNETDATA_API_KEY. On the OpenAI API, the Responses API's mcp tool takes https://mcp.internetdata.io/mcp as its server_url and the key as its authorization.
Every other MCP client, and what each tool answers: MCP Server.
